ARRIVAL
- On
arrival at Corfu airport, you will be greeted by our GBV
representative, who will organise your transfer. Depending on
weather conditions and the number of arrivals you can travel
by sea-taxi or ferry to Paxos (1 hour journey). Upon arrival
in Paxos, we will pick you up from the harbour; the trip to
Glyfada is then approx. 15 minutes by minibus. |
| AIR-CONDITIONING
- Air
conditioning is available upon request in most of the villas.
It costs £30 (approx. 42 euros) per week. There is no need to
book in advance, just ask for the remote control at Reception.
To help us save energy in Paxos, please use it sparingly. |

| BREAKFAST
- Breakfast
is served from 8.30am - 10am in our Glyfada Taverna by the
beach. It is served as a Buffet and there are fruits, fresh local
bread, cereals and Greek yogurt available. It’s a great
start to the day, so make sure you don’t miss it! |
| BOAT HIRE -
Boats can be rented from a number of small boat hire companies in Loggos. There are boats ranging from 15HP to 30HP. Boats can be booked with Doreen at the reception. There is no need to book in advance (EXCEPT IN JULY AND AUGUST) |
| BBQ - All our meat and fish is grilled on
the BBQ. |
| BEACH
- There
are 2 beaches in Glyfada: MONODENDRI
beach just below the villas and GLYFADA beach, which can be
reached by the path opposite the swimming pool. Most of the
beaches on Paxos are pebble beaches. For your own comfort
& safety we advise you to wear jelly shoes or something
similar. The sun beds on Monodendri beach are free for our
clients. |

CAT
- The
Glyfada cat is called Zoh (means life) and can often be found asleep in
the shade by the taverna. His favourite dishes are grilled
fish and chicken. For a picture of Zoh,

looks very docile but last year he actually caught a snake! |
| COFFEE -
If
coffee is your thing then you will love spending time at the
beach bar. There is a coffee machine for espresso &
cappuccino. Or you might like the original Greek coffee, which
has an acquired taste. In hot weather we recommend the famous
café frappé served with ice cubes. |
| CHAIRS -
Sun beds are available by the 2 swimming pools
and on Monodendri Beach for GBV clients. They’re very comfy, but
please put them back after use! |
| CAR HIRE
- Cars
can be rented from the Reception in Glyfada. Car hire starts
from approx £170 per week, or you can rent one for just a few
days. It is a great way to explore the island and do some
sightseeing. |

DANCING -
There is
Greek dancing at some of the restaurants in Gaios and Lakka.
This
is not just a spectator’s event, you will be asked to join
in! |

will find your departure list at the reception |
| DINNER -
Evening meals are served at our Glyfada Taverna, usually on
Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday – check the black board at
the Taverna for details. |
DISTANCES -
- The
flight time from the UK to Corfu is approx. 3 hours.
- Corfu
Airport to Corfu Harbour takes 15 minutes by (private) taxi.
- Corfu
to Paxos takes approximately 1 hour by ferry or sea-taxi.
- Paxos
Harbour (Gaios / Loggos) to Glyfada takes 15 minutes.

| DOG
- There is a beautiful dog in
Glyfada called Bruno.
He is very friendly and loves to play, but if you don’t like
dogs or are allergic to pets please let us know.

|
EATING
OUT - Since
the introduction of the Euro, prices in Paxos have increased.
Goods are more expensive and eating out is not as cheap as it
used to be. For this reason we will keep the Glyfada Taverna
open a few nights a week. As a resident of Glyfada you will be
able to enjoy delicious Greek cooking at a friendly price.
When the Glyfada Taverna is not open, you can hop on the
minibus to Loggos, where you’ll find a variety of Greek
restaurants and bars. The minibus usually leaves around 19.00
and comes back at 22.00. Check the blackboard in the Taverna
for details. |

ENERGY
- Paxos
is a very small island and both water and electricity are in
short supply. In Glyfada we try to be very energy conscious so
please use these resources carefully. Don’t waste water and
please switch off the air-conditioning when you leave the
villa. Otherwise there may not be enough electricity for
everyone and you could end up sitting in the dark with a pack
of candles! |

FLYING DOLPHIN -
The
Flying Dolphin or the SANTA II is
the regular hydrofoil ferry service between Corfu and Paxos.
The journey takes one hour. |
| FRESH FISH -
All
our fish is ‘The Fresh Catch of the Day’. If fish isn’t
on the menu, then the local fisherman had no luck that day! |
| FOOD - Much
of the food served in Paxos is traditional Greek food, such as
Greek salad & souvlaki. If this does not appeal, then
there are some Italian restaurants on the island.
For
vegetarians there are some healthy vegetarian dishes on the menu in
Glyfada. |
| FETA CHEESE -
This
is a traditional Greek cheese, which is found in Greek salad.
When it is fried it is called saganaki. |

Paxos
is the smallest of the Ionian Islands. The group of seven
Ionian islands is called ‘Eptanisa’ in Greek. These are
Corfu, Paxos, Kefalonia, Lefkas, Ithaca, Zakynthos &

KERKYRA AIRPORT -
This is the Greek
name of Corfu's airport. On arrival here, you will
be
greeted by our Glyfada Beach Villas representative, who will be waiting for you
in the Arrivals Hall. She will be holding a clipboard with GBV

LAKKA - Lakka is a popular harbour,
attracting many impressive boats by day and offering a lively
atmosphere at night. |
| LANGUAGE -
The local language is Greek,
although English and Italian are also well spoken in
restaurants, bars, shops and tourist offices. |

last

| LAUNDRY
- We offer a 2-day laundry service in Glyfada. Ideal for those beach towels that can turn into "cardboard" after a week or so on the beach!

Loggos is one of the smallest
fishing villages in Paxos. To find out more about Loggos,

| LUNCH
- Lunch is served between 1pm and 3pm in the Glyfada Beach Taverna by the beach.
There is a set menu (1 week menu) available prepared with local ingredients. Please make sure you order your lunch
by 3 o clock. |

MONEY - The
Euro is the local currency in Paxos. There are a few cash
points Gaios, and Lakka and you can change cash and
traveller's cheques at the Reception in Glyfada. In
Glyfada you are welcome to settle your bills on a daily,
weekly or fortnightly basis. Please tell the manager how you
want to settle your bills upon arrival. You’d be surprised
how many ice creams you can eat in 2 weeks (and forget about
it!) |
| MOSQUITOES -
Like
all Greek Islands, there are some mosquitoes on Paxos. We
recommend that you bring some good Mosquito repellent. Some
people have been known to have an allergic reaction to
mosquitoes; this is not dangerous, just a nuisance! |
| MUSEUM -
The
Glyfada Museum was established in 2002. It displays a charming
collection of historic pieces and artefacts from Paxos. |
| MYTHOS -
This is a Greek beer that is
found almost everywhere in Greece. In
the Glyfada Taverna we serve cold draught beer, perfect for a
hot day. |

|
NATURE TRAILS -
Paxos offers some
interesting walks among olive groves and hills. If this is
your scene, come prepared with long trousers and walking boots
as many paths are overgrown. Please note, some paths are no
longer accessible as they are on privately owned land. Also
remember that you are in a foreign country where different
laws apply than in the UK and that the ‘right to roam’
does not exist in Greece. So if you see a closed gate or a sign that says ‘No
Entry’, that’s what it means! |
| NIGHTLIFE -
There
is no ‘wild nightlife’ on the island. There are some very nice bars and Greek Tavernas in Loggos. The villages of
Gaios and Lakka are the busiest at night, offering an even
wider selection of bars and a variety of restaurants. The nightclub, Phoenix, overlooks the port of Gaios (strictly for
the younger generation!) |

Paxos produces its own olive
oil, which can be bought from some local groceries. |

ON SITE

PORTS - There are three main ports in
Paxos; Gaios, Lakka and Loggos. The Dolphin docks in Gaios and
the smaller sea taxi moors in Loggos. |

| POOL

There are 2 beautiful swimming pools for the
residents of Glyfada: 1 located up on the hill and 1 located
close to the beach. The pools are open daily, but we would like
to advise you that the swimming pools and the water sport
facilities on the beach may be used at your own risk. Young
children should not be left unsupervised near the pools or the
beach. |
| POOLBAR
- There
is an ‘Honesty bar' at the pool. Please select anything
you like from the fridge and write the items on the Pool
Bar List. Make yourself at home! |
| PHARMACY
& DOCTOR - There
is one pharmacy on the island. This is in Gaios which is
approx. 15 minutes drive away from Glyfada. There is also a
medical centre and a GP who can visit you in Glyfada in the
case of an emergency. Please ask the manager for more
information.

RECEPTION -
The reception in Glyfada is
located just above the swimming pool and is open in the morning
from 09.00 - 11.30 and in the afternoon from 17.00 - 19.30. Here
you can get all the information you need concerning car rental,
boat hire, excursions, local bus time tables etc. You can also
change your traveller cheques here and there is a large
selection of books available (on an exchange basis).

| RESTAURANTS -
When
the Glyfada Taverna is closed for evening meals; there is a
minibus service to Loggos.
Here you will find a selection of restaurants offering
a wide range of food. In some Tavernas you may even be invited into
the kitchen to look into the pots and pans to see what's on
offer! |
| ROCKS - There are many rocks in Paxos
that are used to dive from into the sea. This can be great
fun, but TAKE CARE! |

|
SUN CREAM -
This is an essential item to
pack in your suitcase and should be used regularly throughout
the day. If you run out you can buy plenty in Loggos. |
| SPIROS -
Spiros
is the owner and manager of The Glyfada Beach Villas. He is
always happy to help you if there are any problems, and runs
the minibus service most evenings to Loggos. He will also meet
you on arrival at the port in Gaios and drive you to Glyfada. |

|
TAVERNA -
The
GBV Taverna is open all day, serving breakfast, lunch, drinks
and snacks. It is also open on some weekday evenings. There
are always a wide variety of dishes available, all prepared with
local ingredients. There is also a ‘Special Dish of the
Day’ – definitely worth trying - and vegetarian dishes are
also on the menu. |
| TAXIS - If
you want to go to Gaios or Lakka you will need a taxi unless
you take a bus from Loggos. We have two main taxi drivers that
work with GBV. They both speak English well and are very
reliable. |
|

| TENNIS COURT
- There is a tennis court in Glyfada. It is situated on the hill near the swimming
pool. For access times and prices please contact the manager.
There will be some basic tennis gear available but if you are
a keen player please bring your whites and your own fancy
racket! |
TRANSFER -
Once
you arrive at Corfu airport you will be greeted by a GBV
representative. A taxi will be organised to take you to the
'old port' or the 'new port' where you can catch the
ferry or sea-taxi to Paxos (times and sailings
subject to change). On arrival in either Loggos or Gaois
you will be greeted by Spiros, the manager of Glyfada Beach
Villas. He will drive you to the Glyfada Beach Villas, so look out
for his white minibus with the GBV logo.

There
are straw umbrellas on the beach to offer shade and there are
also some umbrellas at the swimming pool. |

There are 5 Family Villas
sleeping 4-5 persons and there are 6 Glyfada Villas sleeping

Ionian can sleep up to 8 persons and The Stone House sleeps 4. |

- A
lot of the Greek cuisine consists of vegetarian dishes, such as

VISITORS
- The
Glyfada Beach Villas are situated on private property
If you want to bring any visitors or friends who are
staying somewhere else on the island, please ask permission
first from the manager. |

|
WATER
- During
the summer there is a water shortage on Paxos. Please be
careful whenever you use it. Tap water is slightly salty and
not for consumption, but bottled water is widely available. |
| WATER SPORTS -
There
are some activities available on Monodendri Beach. There is windsurfing, ringos, and pedalos.
There is also the opportunity to go parasailing, when you are
strapped into a parachute and towed behind a boat! |
| WEATHER
- The weather is usually very good in Paxos, from
May to October. To
